As if.

Just like you probably do, I have days that seem neverending and weeks that seem to repeat the same boring pattern, not unlike a hamster in a wheel. Sometimes it’s a scenery change I need–even just a simple drive or a hot bath, or a visit to a friend. Sometimes luxury helps–a hot bath with a glass of something sparkly just for me, or my favorite lipstick brand in a new color. And sometimes, setting goals and imagining your life as if it is already the way you want it to be is the ticket.

Someday soon there will be a Center, a small and cozy place with tall windows, wild and beautiful landscaping, meandering garden paths. The Center will be a place of welcome for women and children of all ages and emotional issues, for healing and support, employing therapists in the arts, music, massage, non-traditional healers, and of course a few counselors.  There I will spend my day, trying to help, learning as much as I facilitate learning.

The day turns into a sparkling night full of possibility. I have a dinner and dancing appointment with the partner who supports and loves me unconditionally. Our children are at home, recovering from soccer practice or dance class or painting masterpieces in their bedrooms. The little black dress and the red spiky heels are waiting as I say goodbye to my work and slip into the fabric of my personal life.

What does my life look like on that hopefully not-too-distant day?  It’s a life that’s fulfilling in both a professional and personal way. I see someone who is grounded, more or less balanced despite the drama I love so much, when I look in the mirror. The best part is that I can live as if my ideal life is all possible and slated to happen, even as I trudge to another day of the endless, overextended and underappreciated grind. Because believing it can be so is the best way to make sure it actually becomes so.

As if. It’s a beautiful thing.
